    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a MSC is currently searching for a Senior Systems Administrator to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The successful candidate will be responsible for the effective and efficient operations, maintenance, and administration of unique hardware and software in the laboratory environment. This opportunity is permanent, full-time, and it is on site in Bethesda/Rockville, MD

     

    Skills & Responsibilities

    • Troubleshoot, install and support these products and systems (operational support). These projects may involve requirements analysis, formalized project planning and design of server configurations, storage, archiving and backup options. 
    • Collaborate with the existing system administrators to implement and integrate these products into the environment.
    • Provide user support for configuration and administration of specialized technologies as identified by the government COR, and help provide a proactive support environment to users in the laboratories and branches.
    • Maintain O/S versions and patch-levels; keeping them at an acceptable level and perform security scans to ensure that the most obvious security issues have been identified and resolved. Other security features (such as tcp_wrappers and ssh) may need to be installed and configured.  Ensure all systems and software meet all HHS and NIH requirements.
    • Implement and support all required HHS and NIH security policies and procedures such as, but not limited to encryption of workstations, external storage and mobile devices. Responsible for the backup of all systems, integrity of the backups and restoration of files, if necessary
    • Troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
    • Routine system administration of Windows Systems
    • Apply system patches and perform vulnerabilities management.
    • Backup, archival and storage administration.
    • Create and update procedure documents

     

     

    Requirements

    Qualifications:

    • Hands-on expertise with Laboratory Systems, equipment, hardware, and software
    • 7-9 years’ experience in System Administration
    • 3-5 years’ experience in a management capacity
    • Proficiency in system security and patch management.
    • Experience in administering systems in a networked environment. •
    • Experience in MS Hyper-V and/or VMware.
    • Ability to both take direction and work in a self-directed environment; to effectively interact with all levels of staff and external contacts; and ability to work, as an effective team member is essential.
    • Ability to provide effectively written work status report.
    • Excellent organization and time management skills and flexibility to handle a variety of tasks and shift priorities simultaneously.
    • Excellent team skills, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
