    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Senior Computer Scientist with extensive medical imaging experience and expertise in computer graphics, medical visualization, volume visualization, and image processing and analysis to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with MSC and is onsite in Rockville, MD. 

    • Application of existing technology to create novel algorithms for analyzing large numbers of chest X-rays and thoracic CTs from patients with tuberculosis is required.
    • Support the application of artificial intelligence/deep learning techniques to develop novel imaging algorithms.
    • Support for various software packages that will be publicly available.
    • Author manuscripts and presentations at conferences to report findings.
    • Regular engagement with the community to disseminate resources while providing end user support.
    • Design, implement and optimize medical image analysis solutions for electron microscopy (FIBSEM and EM, CryoEM Tomography) with segmentation, registration, feature detection and shape analysis methods


    • Bachelors of Science in Computer Science/Mathematics
    • 15 plus years experience with design and development of image processing tools, including the Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK)
    • 5 plus years of experience with SimpleITK
    • Experience engaging a software community in code and design reviews, community support, algorithm analysis, and cross platform maintenance
    • Expertise with the following programming languages, libraries and tools, applications: C++, Python, R, Java, ITK, git, VTK, Jupyter Notebooks, Docker
    • Desired expertise in: C#, Ruby, Lua, Tcl/Tk, CMake, Qt, Matlab, FIJI, 3D Slicer
