    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Scientific Technical Writer to support the National Cancer Institute.  This opportunity is full-time, and is located in Rockville, Maryland. 

    The Scientific Technical Writer will create, edit and maintain a broad range of operational documents. These will include written and graphical technical materials, standard operating procedures, reports, presentations, system diagrams, fact sheets, user guides, training materials, and website copy. The successful candidate will have strong scientific technical writing skills and the ability to work independently and within a team environment. 


    • Develop and revise technicalor scientific operational documents.
    • Manage quality review and approval process to ensure technicalaccuracy and clarity of documentation.
    • Take notes and summaries at scientific and collaborative meetings.\
    • Interact with program staff to assist with all communications and documentation requirements, and provide overall project support.
    • Plan, prepare, edit and revise assigned documents.
    • Maintain a repository of program documentation in SharePoint.
    • Critique current Web sites and suggest improvements for better understanding by users – who may be scientific communities and the general public.
    • Generate materials required to effectively communicate scientific, IT, and biomedical information to the global scientific community and the public. 


    • Bachelor’s degree in an applicable scientific field of study such as computer science, biology or life sciences preferred. 
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of technicalwriting and editing experience.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with strong editing, formatting, and organization skills.
    • Strong MS Office application skills (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
    • Demonstrated strong analytical skills with the ability to understand,collect, analyze, and present complex biomedical and technicalinformation.
    • Ability to organize information in a cohesive manner with strong attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively individually and as part of a team.
    • Familiarity with biomedical informatics, IT, and health science preferred.
    • Familiarity with theNIH and/or NCI, their goals, objectives, programs, and policies preferred.
