    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a GIS Specialist supporting the National Agricultural Library at USDA.  This is a full-time position located on the USDA campus in Beltsville, MD. 


    Duties & Responsibilities:

    • GIS data support by NAL includes remote sensing, geolocated research data, and additional GIS layers that provide context to the local observations, such as watersheds, soil types, and land use/land cover.
    • This position will combine maintenance of the previously released beta version of the LTAR Data Geospatial website (https://ltar.nal.usda.gov) and the beta release of the GeoData catalog (https://geodata.nal.usda.gov)

    A successful candidate will:

    • Complete enhancements related to 508 compliance with new text-based data discovery and exploration interface.
    • Collaborate with NAL metadata experts to write ISO 19115 metadata.
    • Customize GeoNetwork for release to LTAR such that there is an improved usability for experts and non-experts including features to re-use metadata components, enhanced thesauri support, and plain English displays of metadata.


    Position Requirements: 

    • 2+ years’ experience in Geospatial related development
    • Experience with XML transforms, XML schema, Angular, javascript, HTML5, OpenLayers 3, Python, Postgres, CSV Data, QA/QC method
    • Experience with GitHub for version control
    • BS or higher in Computer Science or related field

    Highly Desired: 

    • Experience with PostgreSQL, PostGIS, Esri desktop products, Linux, Opens Geospatial Consortium (OGC) web services, and python or Groovy
    • Prior experience modifying GeoNetwork (http://geonetwork-opensource.org)
