    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Desktop Support to support the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), part of the U.S. National Library of Medicine, National Institutes of Health. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on-site in Bethesda, MD. 

     

    NCBI is one of the top 400 most visited sites. We provide free access to petabytes of biomedical and genomic information and our products are used by scientists all over the world, including PubMed, RefSeq, ClinVar, and Clinical Trials. Our engineers work throughout the software stack (front-end, middle-ware, backend, ops, test, and architect). All have a critical impact on biomedical science.  This position will serve the Medical Genetics and Human Variation Program’s mission is to provide accurate, timely and enriched data to genetic counselors, clinicians, data scientists and researchers studying the correlation between human variation and disease.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    • Windows Systems Patch Management
      • Creation and implementation of Windows Server deployment packages.
      • Deployment of server side patches and software updates via SCCM, WSUS, PSEXEC, Shavlik and SCUP (security updates, file system changes, 3rd party updates and driver revision control.
      • Configuration of new server share distribution points as demand by a growing infrastructure.
      • Collection and report creation using SQL and WMI queries to facilitate revision control and asset reporting.
    • Virtualization Administration
      • Creation, deployment and full support of new Hyper-V (VDI) clients for remote users and QA testers, requiring a variety of images created for Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems.
    • Tier III Support for the Windows Desktop Team
      • Provides Tier III Operational support for escalated incident tickets related to Windows Systems issues.
      • Point of contact for the developer, QA testers and indexer groups with a focus on MS Visual Studio, MS SQL Server and Windows image standardization.
      • Configure, install, monitor and maintain IT users’ desktop software and hardware. Providing technical support and guidance through Tier II support and work with vendors and in house developers to resolve Tier III issues. Responsible for documenting solutions to problems and developing end-user guidelines.

    Requirements

    • B.S. degree from an accredited institute in a relevant discipline (information systems, computer science or engineering, etc). An additional four years of relevant technical experience may be substituted for the Bachelor's Degree.
    • Proven professional experience as a Desktop Support, Technical Support Engineer or similar role
    • Proven experience with Windows Server 2012/2016, patch management, virtualization administration
