    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Senior Research Associate to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.

     

    • The primary roles will be to assist with administrative tasks and various research experiments on HIV in the Molecular Structure Section (MSS) of the lab.
    • Work will involve experiments with infectious and non-infectious forms of HIV (BSL2 and BSL3 laboratory practices).
    • Working knowledge of flow cytometry and molecular cloning.
    • Preparation of assay reagents, including plasmid purification, cell culture techniques, and the growth and titer analysis of virus and pseudo-virus stocks for use in spreading infection assays, etc.
    • Collecting and organizing data, performing data analysis and interpretation, and preparing summaries and protocols. Detail oriented; ability to compile and track data from multiple assays.
    • Interpreting and evaluating the results of experiments. Work quickly and efficiently to generate high quality, reproducible data.
    • Virology background. Work will require the amplification of numerous virus strains simultaneously without cross-contamination.
    • Operate and communicate effectively with supervisor and group members in a team-oriented working environment.
    • Exceptional organizational skills.
    • Responsible for laboratory upkeep and routine maintenance of equipment. Maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, FACS, etc.
    • Required to handle biological materials, biological and chemical wastes, etc.
    • Assist with administrative tasks such as tracking inventory and ordering lab supplies through AMBIS, NBS or Intramall; monthly credit card reports, etc.

    Requirements

    • Advanced degree in biology, virology, or another relevant discipline with 4 years related experience required.
    • Experience conducting virus-host interactions research is required
    • Knowledge of flow cytometry and background in Virology is required
    • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
