    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Research Associate to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  This opportunity is full-time with MSC and it is on-site in Bethesda, Maryland.

     

    • Provide specialized scientific support, including participation on the design, planning, conduct, and evaluation of experiments.
    • Perform a wide variety of complex procedures and techniques; cell culture, DNA analysis, DNA isolation, DNA purification, nucleic acid amplification by PCR, flow cytometry, gene cloning.
    • Interpret, evaluate, and discuss the results of each experiment with the Private Investigator as part of the planning process for subsequent studies.
    • Review and research the proper handling and methods of utilization for different biological and chemical materials in regular use in the laboratory.
    • Prepare various media, stock supplies, and other reagents for use in the laboratory.
    • Order and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, liquid nitrogen, etc., upon government approval.
    • Maintain accurate, daily records of experiments and results in laboratory notebooks.
    • Other laboratory duties, as needed.

    Requirements

     

    • Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Immunology, or related field plus 2-4 years of related experience. A Bachelor’s degree with 5 years of experience may be substituted.
    • Experience in aseptic cell culture techniques
    • Knowledge and experience in multi-color flow cytometry and standard laboratory procedures for  immunoassays (ELISA and  neutralizing antibody assay)
    • Experience with tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, and immunological assay techniques are required.
    • Evidence of mastery of molecular biological or genetic skills.
    • Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and methods of scientific specialty or subspecialty and related disciplines, such as biology, microbiology, chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, virology, genetics, and biochemistry.
    • Demonstrated ability in maintaining accurate and detailed records.
