    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Technical Writer to provide technical documentation and knowledge management services for the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

     

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Work with subject matter experts to translate technical information into clear, accurate documentation usable by technical and non-technical personnel alike.
    • Consult relevant information sources in researching and gathering technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables; ensure proper use of technical terminology.
    • Work with technical team members to develop, improve, and maintain policies, standard operating procedures, work instructions, operations and maintenance manuals, and other relevant documentation related to systems and user support; ensure that policies, procedures, and work instructions comply with required service level agreements (SLAs).
    • Attend meetings and take detailed meeting notes; follow through on action items as directed.
    • Collect and compile information from various systems of record for reporting on level of effort, metrics, capacity, etc.
    • Write and/or edit technical documents, including reports, business cases, briefings and presentations, communications, requirements, system specifications, training materials, and other program/project deliverables in support of operations and contractual requirements.
    • Post and maintain relevant documentation in portals, ticketing systems, and repositories.
    • Maintain and adhere to document standards and convention.
    • Establish productive working relationships and maintain effective communications with teammates and users.
    • Work independently and produce high quality, timely deliverables.
    • Contribute ideas in support of continuous improvement goals.

    Requirements

    Position Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institute in a relevant discipline (English, Communication, Journalism, etc.)
    • Demonstrated skill in writing for technical and non-technical audiences (samples required)
    • Proficiency in application of grammar rules and spelling
    • Ability to listen attentively, think logically, ask probing questions, and communicate clearly in speaking and writing
    • Exceptional attention to detail
    • Familiarity with ITIL principles; ITIL v3 Foundation certification preferred
    • Understanding of IT operations demonstrated through experience, coursework, and/or technical certifications such as those from CompTIA (A+, N+, Project+, Security+, etc.) or OS vendors (Apple, Linux, Microsoft)
    • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively with minimal direction and a high degree of flexibility and adaptability
    • Exceptional customer service skills
    • Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office, Visio, and SharePoint along with screen capture and imaging software
    • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
