    Duties & Responsibilities

    MSC is searching for an experienced Clinical Data Entry Specialist to provide support to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).  This opportunity is a permanent, full-time position with MSC and is on-site in Bethesda, MD.   

    • Scan documents and perform data entry of information into electronic systems via a web interface or upload to the system. The data may reside in electronic files in MS Excel/Word/PowerPoint or other electronic databases, or hardcopy source materials such as patient demographics, medical records (free text and coded), biospecimen data, case report forms, clinical laboratory test results, etc. ETL tools may also be used for loading.
    • Code the fields using biomedical ontologies implemented in the system where applicable and possible.
    • Participate as a tester of the system to verify system works as expected.
    • Provide feedback on user experience for data entry and data retrieval.
    • Communicate closely with responsible parties and system owners responsible for providing the different data to ensure the system is up-to-date.  
    • Perform data accuracy and/or technical review of data. Verify data entered into the computer by checking printouts/reports for errors and making corrections as required.
    • Perform extraction of data and generate required reports as requested.
    • Follow study specific procedures and adhere to data management compliance. Demonstrate thorough knowledge of the data management process.
    • Schedule and submit study files for quality assurance audit.
    • Assist with routine data verification and quality control, ensuring data completeness, integrity, and consistency with prescribed study protocol.
    • Coordinate corrective actions with all concerned parties based on quality assurance audit findings.
    • Handle confidential material and adhere to data security and confidentiality requirements.
    • Follow established guidelines to verify patient information with QC of source documents.

    Requirements

     Required Experience:

    • BS in Biological Sciences is required.
    • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with clinical data entry, required.
    • Demonstrated experience working with clinical teams and nursing staff.
    • Proficiency in Excel macros and data scripting.
    • Knowledge of anatomy, clinical symptoms/phenotypes, use of controlled vocabularies, and web applications required.
    • Experience handling confidential material and adhering to data security and confidentiality requirements.
    • Experience with and efficient in biomedical research record review and curation.
    • Proficient in web application use to enter data, upload data, and download reports.
    • Highly proficient and experienced with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word/PowerPoint/Excel).
    • Ability to communicate effectively with research and clinical staff and other team members.
    • Ability to work effectively as a role player in diverse team environment with tasks assigned by her manager and other team leaders
    • Experience with mapping and/or using biomedical controlled vocabularies, especially anatomy and clinical symptoms.

    Desired Experience:

    • Experience working with clinical research data.
    • Experience with testing clinical research information systems.
    • Experience with Extract, Transform, and Load (ETL) tools.
    • Knowledge of immunology.
