    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Virtualization Engineer to support a Health IT Program at NIH. This opportunity is full-time, and it is on site in the Bethesda, MD area.


    Duties and Responsibilities: 



    The Virtualization Engineer will serve as primary escalation for Virtual Environment related operational issues. This position is responsible for the design, configuration, testing, implementation, and troubleshooting of virtualization and cloud solutions. This position is also responsible for the design and implementation of projects and production support activities.

    • Strong experience in the implementation and support of VMware, Citrix XenApp and Hyper-V
    • Experience with ESX Environments, Dell Blade Chassis and Cisco UCS
    • Strong customer service and support skills and excellent analytical and problem solving skills with ability to operate in an agile environment.
    • Configure, manage, and maintain the virtual and related physical infrastructures
    • Perform required maintenance off hours and support 24x7 operations of a VMware virtual infrastructure in accordance with established schedules and best practices
    • Provide senior level support for maintenance, operation, and configuration of VMware's Site Recovery Manager
    • Design, document, test, and implement virtual services and devices
    • Act as a technical lead for major initiatives, changes and deployments, and handle the diagnosis of complex issues within the virtual environment
    • Assess and evaluate current virtual computing infrastructure, and provide recommendations for enhancements
    • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures
    • Develop maintain, and implement a proactive capacity planning model to support business decisions
    • Detects, identify, and perform complex problem isolation and resolution throughout the virtual architecture
    • Develop and execute contingency plans for network software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages
    • Support yearly disaster recovery exercises Oversees the efficient and effective working of tickets in ServiceNow ticketing system
    • Tracks, manages and reports on activities in data/status reports (periodic and ad-hoc) and provides an escalation point for team members and other teams/customer
    • Manages the Virtual environment to include incident, change, configuration, problem, quality and request management following an ITIL model in a hosting environment
    • Maintains system firmware including software upgrades and patches.

    • Bachelor degree in computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business or other related discipline is required
    • 7+ years’ experience with systems and engineering support extensive experience building scalable, highly available, mission critical virtual infrastructures 
    • Experience should include designing, implementing and managing multiple virtual environments and VLANs 
    • Working knowledge and experience with VMware, Hyper-V, Microsoft Server, and ESXi required
    • Working knowledge and experience with multiple Storage systems and HBAs required
    • Experience or working knowledge of Disaster Recovery technologies
    • Experience or working knowledge of Backup technologies
    • Experience or working knowledge of CISCO UCS/HP/Dell Blade and Server technologies
    • Flexible to work overtime as required, flexible on-call, or overnight/weekend
    • Able to stoop or lift material or equipment up to 50 pounds
    • Strong experience working with Virtualization in a Windows/Linux/Cloud environment
    • Experience managing storage and replication in a VMWare vSphere virtualized/Cloud AWS and Azure environment


    Required to have one or more of the following certification

    • ITIL v3 Framework
    • VCP6.5-DCV  - VMware Certified Professional 6.5 – Data Center Virtualization
    • VCP6-DCV - VMware Certified Professional 6 – Data Center Virtualization
    • MCITP: Virtualization Administrator (Microsoft Hyper-V certification - Server Virtualization with Windows Server Hyper-V and System Center)
    • AWS or Azure Certification
