    Duties & Responsibilities

    Medical Science & Computing is searching for a Sr. Systems Programmer in support of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

    MAJOR DUTIES

    • Provide high-level technical expertise for developing, monitoring, and maintaining databases, applications, and innovative solutions related to the automation of scientific data processing and analysis.
    • Work with other developers and scientists to design, implement, document and maintain highly flexible database infrastructures and data processing system/tools capable of supporting both large and small applications on these platforms.
    • Troubleshoot existing data handling, streamline advanced data processing and analysis pipelines to improve efficiency, speed, and overall throughput, and optimizing and translating existing software algorithms into stable release versions.
    • Research, evaluate, introduce, and support new evolving technologies potentially of use to the NIH end user community and participate in the evaluation of specifications and features of new products and software applications, performing data comparisons, performance and compatibility testing, and make recommendations for future implementation.
    • Collaborate with the software development team to adhere to the established software development process.
    • Ensure controlled data access and maintain data integrity and confidentiality.
    • Evaluate custom image processing products, perform data comparisons, performance and compatibility testing, and make recommendations.
    • Participate in assigned training activities, both formal and on-the-job as well as perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • B.S. or M.S. degree in Computer Science or related field, and over 5 years of industry experience.
    • Expert knowledge and 5+ years of experience with Python Programming.
    • Ability to quickly review existing programming code and optimize, translate, and rewrite new code as necessary.
    • Strong analytical ability to understand and carry out complex procedures utilizing a variety of different software platforms and packages extending to extensive skilled handling, analysis, and processing of large images and datasets.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    • Knowledge and experience with C/C++ and Matlab is a plus.
    • Experience with data analysis libraries and toolboxes such as ITK, VTK, OpenCV, scikit-image, and the Mathworks Image Processing Toolbox.
    • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Windows software development, including Visual Studio is a plus.
    • Experience developing and performing data analysis on datasets, using both existing applications and software packages as well as developing new programs to carry out tasks related to the quantitative analysis of data sets.
    • Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
